Will I be able to ask questions?
A3 Yes. Synopsys Virtual Classroom workshops are live - just as our other classes that you can attend at our "brick-and-mortar" training centers. You may interrupt the instructor at any time to ask your questions, and you can also have discussions with other students, either by voice, or via text-chat.

What are the system requirements to run the Synopsys Virtual Classroom software?
A4 Your system should support the following minimum requirements for running the WebEx client for the virtual classroom.
NOTE: EducationSphere lab access is currently supported only in Windows environments. If you wish to use Training Center for Solaris or Linux, you will need either access the labs using Windows OR download the labs to your computer by going to:

(You will need a SolvNet user ID and password to access this page. You will need to use your own tool licenses to complete the lab exercises)

Will you provide access to the tools used in the labs?
A5 Yes, you will have access to a networked Synopsys server (EducationSphere) to run the labs. For setup instructions, please refer to the EducationSphere Setup Page. The access credentials will be provided by the instructor during class. EducationSphere access is available only in a Windows environment.

Q6

Will I need to travel to a Synopsys Education Center to attend a Synopsys Virtual Classroom workshop?
A6 No. You can attend a Synopsys Virtual Classroom workshop from anywhere where you have access to the minimum system requirements.

Q7

Do I need to do anything special to access the Synopsys Virtual Classroom?
A7 There is some setup involved for participating in the virtual classroom. After successful registration, you will receive an email from us containing all the necessary setup steps. If you register for a course and do not receive a confirmation with a username and password within 2 business days, please send an email to ces_registrar@synopsys.com.

Will the instructor be available after hours?
A8 The instructor may be available live after the workshop for a short time. You will be able to contact the instructor by email at any time after that.

Q9

Can I buy a recorded session?
A9 Synopsys Customer Education does not offer recorded sessions at this time.

Q10

What if I experience an outage (network, power, pc crash)?
A10 You will be able to reconnect to both the lecture (WebEx) and the lab (EducationSphere) at any time, without any loss of data.

Q11

Will there be a break for lunch?
A11 Depending on the time zone you are in, this workshop might run right through lunch. There will not be breaks specifically for lunch, since that time is different for every location. Best is to have some snacks available during class, or to schedule lunch after or before class.

Q12

I don't have printed material, what do I do?
A12 The student and lab manuals are available on SolvNet.
Follow the instructions in the confirmation email to download the materials.

Q13

When do I need to login and test my configuration?
A13 You should test the configuration following the instructions you will receive by email at least 24 hours prior to the workshop start.

I have never used WebEx. Do I need to know anything to participate?
A15 Make sure you are present during the first 10 minutes of class for the WebEx presentation. You do not need any additional knowledge.

The automatic WebEx client installation is not working for me. What can I do?
A16 Please follow this link to install the client manually for Windows:

Note: The Meeting Manager for Linux and Solaris is automatically downloaded, installed and configured the first time you start or join a meeting. No manual installers available for Linux and Solaris.

Can I follow the lecture without printed manuals?
A17 It is possible to follow along without printed manuals. However, the student guides have been designed for interaction, so some pages may not contain all the information, and the instructor will ask you to fill it in during the actual lecture.

Will the lecture be recorded and published in case I miss a portion?
A18 No. The live sessions are not recorded to ensure customer privacy.

Q19

How can I uninstall the WebEx client?
A19 You should be able to uninstall the WebExOne client using "Add or Remove Programs" from your control panel.

For how long do I have access to the labs through EducationSphere?
A23 The labs will be available to you for the days that your class is scheduled for.

Q24

My EducationSphere client seems to be working, but I can't connect to the server. Is my company's proxy in the way?
A24 This could be the case. You can configure the DSA client to route through your proxy. You will need to add the following to your dsa.config file, located in c:\Program Files\DSA\config:

proxy.type = http
proxy.host = proxy.yourcompany.com
proxy.port = 8080

If your company uses an authenticated proxy server, you will need to make the following additions:

proxy.username = jsmith
proxy.password = ppsswd

Of course, you will need to adjust the proxy username and password. Ask your system administrator for help.

What Synopsys tool and version will be used in the lab?
A25 Once you have downloaded the lab files from SolvNet, please read the README file contained in the package. This will show you exactly what tools and versions you need for the workshop.
